If you are looking for a tip for a peaceful mountain trip in the vicinity of Štrbské Pleso, which will reward you with unique views and the atmosphere of the true Tatra wilderness, Batizovské pleso is the ideal choice. This high-altitude lake is one of the less visited places in the Tatras, but it offers an all the more powerful experience.

Batizovské pleso is located at an altitude of 1,884 meters above sea level and is one of the most important high-altitude lakes in the High Tatras. It covers an area of 3.48 ha and reaches a maximum depth of 10.5 m. It lies in the quiet Batizovská Valley, surrounded by the mighty walls of the Gerlach and Končistá massifs, which give it a unique atmosphere.

Hiking trails to Batizovské pleso

Several marked hiking trails lead to Batizovský ples, offering varying lengths and levels of difficulty. This allows both experienced hikers and more capable recreational visitors to choose their route.

From Tatranská Polianka via Sliezsky dom

One of the most frequently used routes is the ascent from Tatranská Polianka to Sliezsky dom, which takes approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes. From there, the trail continues towards Batizovská dolina, and you will reach the lake in about another hour.

Variant via Batizovská bend

The route can be shortened by turning off the asphalt road at the so-called Batizovská zákruta(Batizovská bend). From there, a footpath leads to the Pod Suchým crossroads, from where the marked trail continues directly to Batizovské pleso (Batizovské Lake).

From Popradské pleso

From the opposite side, you can start from Popradské pleso, continue along the Tatranská magistrála trail through Ostrva towards Sliezsky dom. The entire section takes approximately 3 hours and offers beautiful panoramic views.

From Vyšné Hágy

There is also a direct connection to Batizovská Valley from Vyšné Hágy. This route is one of the more physically demanding ones, but it will take you to the lake in approximately 2 hours and 25 minutes.

TIP: We recommend a trip to Batizovské pleso as a full-day mountain hike. Given the altitude and length of the trails, it is important to check the weather, wear good hiking boots, and allow plenty of time. You will be rewarded with peace, the raw beauty of the Tatras, and an exceptional experience away from the busiest tourist spots.
