One of the most famous and beautiful settlements in the Tatras, Tatranská Lomnica is one of the gateways to the world of high mountain nature, panoramic views, and unforgettable experiences. Located at the foot of the majestic Lomnický štít peak, it has been attracting visitors in every season for more than a century.
Cable cars from Tatranská Lomnica
The biggest attraction of Tatranská Lomnica is the cable car system leading up to the high mountain environment.
Tatranská Lomnica – Skalnaté pleso
Skalnaté pleso is located at an altitude of 1,751 meters above sea level and is one of the most visited places in the High Tatras. You can get there from Tatranská Lomnica by cable car. First, take the 6-seater chairlift to the Štart intermediate station and then the 15-seater gondola directly to the lake.
The location is suitable for easy walks and as a starting point for high-altitude hikes. At an altitude of 1,786 meters above sea level, there is an astronomical and meteorological observatory, where the first observations were made in 1943. The complex also includes an observatory.
Visitors can enjoy the services of a mountain restaurant with a sunny terrace offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and Lomnické sedlo.
Tatranská Lomnica – Lomnické sedlo
From Tatranská Lomnica , you will first take the cable car to the Štart intermediate station, then continue with a 15-seater gondola to Skalnaté pleso. From there, a modernized chairlift will take you comfortably to an altitude of 2,190 m above sea level.
The eastern side features the steepest ski slope in Slovakia, while the western slopes descend into the Malá Studená valley. The summit offers panoramic views of the Poprad Basin and the majestic Slavkovský štít peak.
Tatranská Lomnica – Lomnický štít
From Tatranská Lomnica, you will first take the cable car to the Štart intermediate station, from where a modern 15-seat gondola continues to Skalnaté pleso. This is where the most attractive part begins, namely the ascent by the legendary red cable car to the summit of Lomnický štít ( 2,634 m above sea level).
This unique 14-seater cabin climbs 855 meters in approximately 8.5 minutes, passing over steep rock faces and deep valleys. It is one of the most technically interesting cable cars in Central Europe. During the ride, dramatic views of the Skalnatá Valley and the surrounding peaks gradually open up before you, which are literally within reach from the cabin.
The capacity of the cable car is limited and access to the summit is regulated by time, so advance booking is recommended. For many visitors, the cable car ride itself is just as powerful an experience as the view from the summit.
The ticket price depends on the place of departure. If you want to take the cable car directly from Tatranská Lomnica, a return ticket will cost you €89. If you board at Skalnaté Pleso, you will pay €59. Tickets can be purchased online in advance or directly at the ticket office.
Capacity at the summit is limited, so advance reservations are required. The view from the summit is one of the most beautiful in Central Europe.
